Overview
WritingProof is a Google Docs™ add-on that tracks writing sessions to help users prove their documents were written by a human. We are committed to protecting your privacy.
Data We Collect
- Your Google account email address (used as author identification in reports)
- Writing session data: timestamps, character counts, typing and paste statistics
- Document metadata: document title and ID
How We Use Your Data
- All data is stored locally in your Google Document's properties
- Session reports are saved to your personal Google Drive™
- We do not collect, transmit, or store any data on external servers
- We do not read or store the actual content of your documents
- We do not share your data with any third parties
Data Storage
All WritingProof data is stored exclusively in:
- Your Google Document's properties (session tracking data)
- Your Google Drive™ (proof reports in JSON format)
You have full control over your data and can delete it at any time using the "Reset All Data" option in the add-on menu.
Permissions
WritingProof requests the following permissions:
- Google Docs™: To monitor document changes for writing session tracking
- Google Drive™: To save proof reports to your personal Drive
- Email: To identify you as the document author in reports
- Script Storage: To save session data within your document

Data Protection Mechanisms
WritingProof implements the following measures to protect your data:
- Local storage only: All session data is stored exclusively in your Google Document's properties and your personal Google Drive™. No data is transmitted to external servers.
- Cryptographic integrity: All proof reports are protected with SHA-256 cryptographic hash chains, ensuring data cannot be tampered with without detection.
- Minimal data collection: WritingProof only collects writing metadata (timestamps, character counts, typing statistics). The actual content of your documents is never read or stored.
- Access control: Proof reports saved to Google Drive™ are only accessible to you. Files are stored in your personal Drive under your own Google account.
- OAuth security: WritingProof uses Google's OAuth 2.0 protocol for authentication. We never store or have access to your Google account credentials.
- No third-party sharing: Your data is never shared with, sold to, or accessed by any third parties.
